Apple to Start Production of iPhones in India in a few Months Time
It seems Apple's long term plan to start producing iPhones in India might be a reality soon. If you guys remember, Apple already announced last year that plans are been made to build an iPhone assembly plant in India in coming future.
According to recent claims by popular news agency Reuters, two different sources from the industry have confirmed that Wistron Corp, a Taiwanese manufacturing partner of Apple, is in the process of building an assembly plant in the southern Indian technology hub of Bengaluru (Bangalore).
The plant is said to be ready for operations in a few months time and it's only focus will be the production of mobile phones. The first iPhone to be assembled in India is said to be the budget friendly iPhone SE, since it's a cheaper variant, apple expects this to entice the customers.
The Economic Times initially reported that Apple might be producing 300,000 to 400,000 iPhone SE units, but this new information suggests that the numbers will be considerably lower to start with.
The Indian smartphone market has always favoured low end smarphones within the range of $150. But we just have to see how well the iPhone SE of around $424 will do in such market.
