MultiChoice Nigeria Plans to launch Pay-Per-View Subscription Model to DSTV/Gotv Subscribers Soon
One of the biggest complains of the multi choice users, i.e DSTV/GOTV is the lack of pay per view subscription option. With the epileptic power supply in this country, many DSTV/GOTV subscribers don't even enjoy up to 24 hours out of the 720 hours they subscribe for.
Multichoice Nigeria has just announced that it will be launching a pay-per-view (PPV) option in the country soon. But don't get too excited as this won't really solve the problem. The new Pay-Per-View (PPV), will allow viewers pay an additional fee to watch a particular programme either on a cable or a satellite TV.
According to the HPR,
“Pay TV operation is not like the telecom version where you pay for the amount of airtime you want to use. Pay-as-you-go, as believed by some customers, is not obtainable in the pay TV business,”“Paying for PPV in Europe and the UK is equivalent to paying for two months subscription in Nigeria. We know Africans love boxing that is why we are bringing the best thing that is happening in the world to Africa.”
What this means is that the new PPV will not work like your telecoms Pay As You Go(PAYG) where you only pay for what you use. The Pay-Per-View is a pay television service whereby subscribers of a particular television provider can purchase additional sporting events to view over and above their normal subscription package and charges.
Note that this new PPV service is not available in Nigeria or any African country yet, but the company assured that its customers would receive direct communication should this service be offered in the future
