OnePlus 5 receives OxygenOS Open Beta 3 Android 8 Oreo update with Face Unlock Feature
The face unlock on the OnePlus 5t is OnePlus's alternative to the Face ID on the iPhone X. Although a lot of people argue that iPhone X Face ID is way more secured compared to the Face unlock on the OnePlus 5t due to the dedicated 3D front scanner, one thing you can't deny is how fast the OnePlus Face unlock is compared to the Face ID on the iPhone X.
OnePlus initially made the Face unlock available on the OnePlus 5t only but OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei made a promise last week that OnePlus 5 users will also get the feature through a software update. Now the company has kept its promise and the Face unlock feature has started rolling out to Oneplus 5 users alongside the latest Oxygen OS android Oreo beta update for the device.
Aside the Face Unlock, the new update also includes the latest December security patch, several other improvements and many bug fixes.
Below is the full changelog for the Oxygen OS 3.0 published by OnePlus:
Recorder
- Added app shortcut on Launcher.
System
- Added Face Unlock;
- Optimizations for vibrations;
- Fixed connection issue of 5G Wi-Fi;
- General bug fixes and improvements;
- Updated Android security patch for December.
The update is currently rolling out but in batches, so it might take time before it gets to you. Also, note that the file is just 106mb large. Make sure you have a very strong network connection and your phone should be charged before you proceed with the update.
