WhatsApp released List of Mobile Platforms it will Stop Supporting by December 31st 2017
WhatsApp is here again with it's own end of the year/new year resolution and as usual the company has just officially released the list of platforms that it will stop supporting by the end of this year 2017 and in the future.
If you remember, WhatsApp initial planned on ending support on some mobile OS by December 31st 2016 but decided to extend it to June of 2017. Although WhatsApp messenger app has stopped working on older android S40, WhatsApp has just announced in a recent blog post that it will also end support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older platforms by December 31st 2017.
According to the post, users on these particular platforms will not be able to create new accounts, nor re-verify existing accounts once the company ends support but they won't lose access to their WhatsApp account as they can continue using the app on their phone, but should not expect any future security updates or new features.
Even though the Windows 8.0 phones won't receive any further WhatsApp support, this doesn't affect users of Windows 8.1 smartphones and newer OS as they will continue receiving support and newer updates. Whatsapp also mentioned that by June 30, 2017, the messaging app will stop working on Nokia smartphones running on Symbian S60 while android phones running Android 2.3.7 and older (Gingerbread) will be stopped from February 1, 2020.
If your smartphone is among those listed above, I guess it's finally time to upgrade to something newer. I mean, what's the use of a smartphone that can't WhatsApp!? *Just Saying*.
