HMD confirms that the Nokia 2 won't be receiving Android 9.0 Pie update
The Nokia 2 was one of the first smartphones launched by Nokia under the new HMD brand. The device was launched in 2017 and it ran on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. HMD started the Android Oreo beta program for the Nokia 2 in June of 2018 until February of 2019 before the stable version started rolling out.
Even with the long duration of beta testing for the Oreo, the update still seemed too heavy for the Nokia 2 that it affected performance and Nokia had to make it an optional update. The phone was powered by an old entry level Snapdragon 212 chipset coupled with just 1GB of RAM.
With the way the Oreo update turned out, it was pretty obvious that the Nokia 2 won't be getting the Pie update as it would be an over-kill for the low powered chipset and small RAM size, but for those who might still be having doubts, one of the Admins has just clarified that the Nokia 2 won't be updated to Android Pie.
So if you own a Nokia 2 smartphone, note that the phone won't be at any point in the future be updated to Android 9.0 Pie, you will however still be receiving regular security update.
