WhatsApp adds fingerprint unlock feature to the Android App
In January of this year 2019, WhatsApp rolled out a biometric authentication feature which allows iOS users to setup a Face ID or Touch ID authentication to unlock the WhatsApp application. Now after about 7 months later, the feature is finally rolling out to Android users.
WhatsApp has started rolling out an update which comes with a new authentication feature that allows Android users to lock their WhatsApp application with their fingerprint. The feature is currently only available on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
If you are already on the WhatsApp beta program, all you need to do is just to update your WhatsApp to the latest version or for those who are on the stable version and wish to try out this new feature, you can go ahead and download the WhatsApp beta v2.19.221 from Google play store or from this LINK.
Note that even with the fingerprint lock enabled you will still be able to receive voice or video call without unlocking. You will also be able to view and reply messages directly from the notification panel. The fingerprint authentication lock will only prevent third party from opening your WhatsApp application.
The feature is expected to roll out to the stable version of WhatsApp after the test is completed on the beta version and if you wish to try out the beta version, make sure your phone is running Android M or above.
