How to turn off Google Assistant speech output
By default, when you ask Google Assistant a question, the answer is always displayed on the screen and also read out loud as well. There are definitely times when you just want a silent conversation with Google assistant whereby answers are just displayed on your screen and not read out loud.
Google has put this into consideration and added a new section titled "Turn off speech output," to the Google assistant section. This will give users the option to turn on or off the speech output. Accessing this new section is pretty simple and straightforward.
How to turn off Google Assistant speech output
- Hold down the home button or say "OK Google" or "Hey Google."
- Once the Google Assistant box comes up, tap on the compass icon at the bottom right corner.
- After that, tap on your profile picture or intial at the top right corner of the screen.
- Go to settings > Assistant.
- Go to phone > "Voice and speech," and then tap on Speech Output.
- To turn off Google Assistant voice output, just select "Hands-free only." To turn it back on, select on.
